Gathering Spotlight: Flipping the Script

Today’s spotlight takes a page from a previous resource recommendation, Chip and Dan Heath’s The Power of Moments: the power of flipping the script.

A client last year came to me because they wanted to do something different for their sales’ team retreat kickoff dinner. There had been leadership turnover and they wanted to signal that under this new leader, things would be different (and better!).

I suggested we try Priya’s 15 toasts concept. We planned for everyone to give a toast to curiosity over dinner.

Dear reader: I had not been that scared in anticipation of a work event in a looooong time. I was nervous the sales team members would think, “who on earth is this woo-woo chick leading us through this crazy activity?”

I am delighted to report that it was a hit. There was laughter. There were tears. There was connection. The power of flipping the script was successful once again!

YOUR TURN

What’s an upcoming gathering where you can flip the script and do something different? I’m happy to be a thought partner in ideation. Feel free to snag time here.
